The WorkSafe First Aid Instructor Development Programme is a train the trainer programme designed for those who want to provide first aid training to their staff, customers or clients but do not currently have sufficient experience in the field. WorkSafe Training Systems provide instructor training to enable delivery of WorkSafe Basic Life Support, Paediatric Basic Life Support, Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work. The programme includes a HSE approved First Aid at Work Qualification which is the minimum pre-requisite for instructors teaching approved first aid training.
By completing the WorkSafe Instructor Development Programme you can save both time and money from completing the FAW qualification with a separate provider and the experience of having the FAW qualification delivered by a fully approved WorkSafe instructor means you will be fully prepared to delivery training to your students on completion of the course.
The WorkSafe First Aid Instructor Development Programme is designed to build on any existing first aid knowledge and provide further in-depth knowledge and information on a wide range of related subjects. Ideally candidates will have completed some form of first aid training previously and be up to date with current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines for Basic Life Support prior to attendance. Practical demonstrations and lots of hands on experience make the programme interactive with example scenarios and teaching sessions taking place.
Course Programme:
The course follows a syllabus set over 4 days and includes:
- First Aid at Work Qualification
- First Aid Instructor Qualification in;
- Basic Life Support
- Paediatric Basic Life Support
- Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE approved)
- First Aid at Work (HSE approved)
- Comprehensive instructor guide
- Easy read lesson plans
- Presentation materials
- Opportunity to view and deliver example course elements
- Assessment of presentation skills
- Initial Approval Moderation visit
- Lunch and Refreshments
- Instructor certification awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.
All First Aid Instructor Training Programmes will be conducted by a member of the WorkSafe Instructor Approvals team, all of whom have many years experience in the field. The course syllabus includes plenty of time to consolidate skills and ensure instructors complete the course feeling confident in being able to deliver student level training to their client group. Additional time is available for further skill development where required.
On successful completion of the First Aid Instructor Development Programme the instructors action plan will be annotated and the newly approved instructor will be required to undertake an initial approval moderation visit that will be conducted during one of the first six programmes delivered by the newly qualified instructor.
Venue: Normally delivered from our training premises but may be delivered on site where requested.

Entrance requirements:
Prior to acceptance on the programme all candidates must submit a comprehensive portfolio of evidence to support their application. A pro-forma for this is available within the instructor application pack. The minimum entry requirements are:
- Evidence of prior first aid qualifications or experience.
- A formal teaching or assessing qualification. Where this is not held and experience cannot be shown by other methods/qualification an action plan will be issued to specify further observed moderations or obtaining of a relevant qualification. E.g. 7307, Cert Ed, A1.
Note:
The WorkSafe Instructor Development Programme will enable the instructor to deliver programmes designed and awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems. The instructor or assessor qualification does not necessarily give the instructor an award to deliver training programmes awarded by other organisations. Individual organisations are responsible for their own instructor qualifications although APL may be given by some organisations.
