WorkSafe Training Systems - First Aid Instructor Training Courses

Basic Life Support (BLS)

The WorkSafe Basic Life Support (BLS) programme provides students with Basic First Aid skills in line with current UK Resuscitation Council guidance.  It is an excellent course to teach members of the public or community basic life saving skills during a short, concise programme that focuses on immediate priorities and effective, simple care that can be performed until professional medical assistance arrives.

WorkSafe Basic Life Support focuses on initial, time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is bleeding severely or has become unconscious.  Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify that prompt, effective actions can greatly increase the chance of survival.

WorkSafe BLS meets with the recommendations for training an 'Appointed Person' in basic first aid skills as detailed in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L74.

The WorkSafe Basic Life Support programme content includes:

  • Importance of self-protection and use of barriers
  • Primary Survey
  • Unconscious Casualties and Recovery Position
  • Adult CPR
  • Chain of Survival
  • Basic Bleeding Control

The course follows a syllabus laid down by WorkSafe Training Systems and utilises the following training methods:

  • Interactive presentations to convey important information
  • Active learning methods involving small group practice with ongoing instructor assessment
  • Current medical information presented in a relaxed learning environment
  • Opportunity for all students to complete of a course feedback form, register for qualification expiry reminders and keep up to date with first aid changes on the WorkSafe website.

The Syllabus benefits from a flexible course design that allows instructors to tailor the programme content to the exact needs of the students with additional content and subjects available as required.

Successful candidates will be awarded an A4 certificate awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems following completion of the programme.
