New Paediatric Emergency First Aid Programme
The Department for Education has released a new Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which is due to take effect on the 3rd April 2017. These guidelines include a new 1 day Emergency Paediatric course.
Emergency Paediatric First Aid course details:
This course has been especially designed for those who work in a child care environment after the minimum of requirement of 12 hour Paediatric first aid staff are in place. This is NOT a refresher for the 2 day Paediatric first aid course.
The Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course provides an option for further staff in a setting to be first aid trained. It covers basic first aid for Adults, children and infants and includes further elements on seizures and shock. The course should be delivered over 6 hours face-to-face and cover the following elements:
Scene Assessment, management of an unconscious casualty, CPR, choking, bleeding (including hypovolemic shock) and seizures. Full Lesson plans for the 1 day Emergency Paediatric course are available to Worksafe approved instructors with PowerPoint presentation available for download in the Instructor zone. Pink Paediatric packs are the correct student packs for this course- with assessment sheets enclosed.
It is important to note that this course does not meet the requirements set by Ofsted for first aid provision in early years settings and that the full 2 day Paediatric and Early Years course is still required to meet these guidelines.
