WorkSafe offers new teaching qualification

Students in college learning

Instructors can now gain a formal teaching qualification through WorkSafe so that they comply with new guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

To help more instructors continue to practise effectively, WorkSafe has gained approval from SFJ Awards to deliver a Level 3 Award in Education and Training from February 2015.  The award replaces PTLLS (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) approved by Ofqual.

No previous teaching practice is required for the Level 3 award, which is an introductory knowledge-based teaching qualification.

WorkSafe’s programme for this award will comprise a distance-learning module followed by a three day workshop where a portfolio and assessment paper will be completed.

Following WorkSafe’s approval from SFJ Awards to deliver the qualification, the team are “delighted” said WorkSafe Director Natalie Parsons.

“This is such great news for instructors and we’re thrilled to be able to help more people gain this qualification,” said Natalie.

“It is now part of the Health and Safety Executive’s guidance that instructors should have a formal teaching qualification and WorkSafe is now making this possible for even more people!”
