Cuts & bruises
Minor injuries like cuts and bruises are usually superficial and will need to be kept clean to prevent infection.
Signs & Symptoms
Skin may be broken and bleeding.
Bruises may not appear straight away but skin will feel painful at the site of the injury.
Treatment
- Rinse a cut with clean water making sure any dirt is washed away.
- Cover with a sterile plaster or low- adhesive dressing if needed.
- Seek further advice if a tetanus injection may be required.
- Use an ice pack (or a frozen bag of vegetables wrapped in a tea towel) to cool bruised skin for at least 20 minutes.
