Embedded objects

Embedded objects

When examining a wound, you may see an embedded object. It is also common for children to embed objects in orifices like the ear or nose.

An embedded object can also be hidden deep inside the wound and may not be visible, this may have caused significant internal bleeding and injury.

Treatment

  1. Do not attempt to remove an embedded object (unless it is a small splinter).
  2. If the object is embedded in a wound, bandage around it as removing it could increase bleeding or cause further damage.
  3. Take the casualty to hospital where a medical professional can remove the object.
